The quick answer: yes, it is doable. The coursework isn't bad as long as you keep up with it, and I had plenty of time for whatever life I have.

The only real drawback to four semesters was that some courses and workshops are only offered on yearly rotating schedules. If I missed it once, it wouldn't be offered again until after I finished.

But people I met there finished the program in less time that me, so it all just takes planning. Plan out your schedule a few semesters in advance, and register as early as possible, and you'll be okay.

I also recommend working in the campus library or at the Kent Free Library. I worked at the KSU reference desk and periodicals desk, and the experience there is at least as valuable as anything I learned in class.

Oh, and stay on Joe Salem's good side. Good luck.

I'm starting grad school at KSU for my MLIS and I found your old website from your days there. I have a question for you: How tough was it to complete your MLIS in 4 semesters? Is it doable? Did you have time for a life? Would you do it that way again? Any tips? Thanks

I don't really think you made any glaring errors, Brian, although I must say a Dr. Holmes' examination of your reference interview would be entertaining. Sometimes language and hearing are just hard to overcome. And it sounds like you got him started. Plus, he felt willing enough to come back to ask about copies.

But I do understand the feeling that you haven't quite done enough.
