It definitely works, but doesn&#039;t come with a stand, and requires pulling a trigger to scan a card, instead of being motion-activated.

The Groton, MA, library did a little more research and ultimately went with the Unitech MS335 (&lt;a href=&quot;http://www.geminicomputersinc.com/ms335-xug.html&quot; rel=&quot;nofollow&quot;&gt;http://www.geminicomputersinc.com/ms335-xug.html&lt;/a&gt;) - long range, USB, and on a hands-free stand, $103 with stand and free shipping.  The only problem they had was that it didn&#039;t read the barcodes on newer library cards. Apparently they are Codabar encoded and the scanner ships with Codabar support turned off. They contacted Unitech and tech support sent them a barcode to enable Codabar support, and that seemed to fix everything.]]></description>
