I [heart] Audiobooks, Side 2

I [heart] Audiobooks, concluded

But do you know what I like best about audiobooks?

I like being read to. I always have, but my opportunities for this have dropped off significantly since I passed "storytime" age. Which I think is unfair. I think libraries should have adult storytime as well as storytime for kids.

I do a lot of craft and woodworking projects which require my eyes and hands, but not necessarily a lot of concentration. I could just as easily bring my knitting or whatever to the library, and listen to a story with a group of people - and it would be social event, too. Kind of like an "audio book club." Or, people could work on puzzles, balance their checkbook, play cards, organize their scrapbooks, or who knows what.

I think there's a lot to be said for hearing a story being told (or read) to you. You get to use your imagination to experience the story, just like reading to yourself, but the experience is shared with other people, too, at the same time.

At the same time, I can visualize how dorky this might feel to actually do it, but I think it'd be fun.
